The NBA is back in action this week, which means it is time to fire up our NBA predictions and see exactly what the team’s future might hold. You may be surprised to learn the 2018-19 Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets look good on paper, while the New York Knicks and Sacramento Kings… do not.
OK, so that is not really surprising. But in the space between the favorites and bottom-feeders, there are nonetheless gamers and some interesting storylines to watch. And we’ll be bringing you a new method to follow these improvements all season long following a tweak to how we create predictions this season. Scroll down to the bottom if you want the full details, but in brief, our interactive webpage now contains two projection alternatives: pure Elo and CARMELO.1 The former is well known to FiveThirtyEight subscribers — it is the very simple version that looks on our franchise history pages — but the latter is far more complicated, using team depth charts and constantly updating player ratings to monitor just how much talent is on each team (after accounting for transactions, injuries and dissatisfied teammates).
